Defining the “new natural,” Robert Minervini’s lecture examines aspects of landscape and space in historical and contemporary painting. Using his work as a starting point, he traces his investigations into the sublime and utopian architecture as it relates to landscape painting.

Call & Response
This is a painting exhibition which I have curated and will be participating in as well.

Opening Reception: Saturday, January 8th, 7-10 pm

In music, call and response refers to two successive and distinct phrases usually played by different musicians, a conversation-like exchange of musical statements, one being the call, and the other the response. The paintings in this exhibition were created through a visual call & response between artists chosen by local artist Robert Minervini.

The exhibition features the work of 10 painters from around the country. Participants were asked to step outside their usual studio practice and engage with another artist. The paintings featured were created during a four-month period of conversation and experimentation. Each pair of artists set their own guidelines for their collaboration based on location, previous histories, and artistic background. This exhibition is the culmination of those collaborations.

It is the hope of the curator that this exhibition will create a platform for discussion about the role of autonomy, community, influence, and the self in the arts, as well as shed light on the creative process.

Collaborators:
Sara Bright and Becky Suss
Leila Cartier and Nicholas Bohac
Jack Leamy and Kristen Van Diggelen
Graham Macbeth and Adam Friedman
Robert Minervini* and JJ Pakola
